Student Life

Enrollment
  • Approximately 300 Students per year
  • 80% of 8th Graders attend Catholic High Schools and go on to successful careers
  • We have Pre-Kindergarten 3 & 4 year old programs through 8th Grade classes.

Curriculum

  • The classes are taught by 15 full time teachers, 5 teacher aides, and volunteer staff members.
  • Core curriculum maintains all state and diocese standards.
  • Students in 7th and 8th Grades learn Pre-Algebra, Algebra.
  • Children in all grades are taught Spanish, Physical Education, Technology, Art, and Music.
  • Earth and Life Science to prepare them for advanced studies in high school.
  • Student produced News Letter and Year Book.
  • Students participate in two music concerts throughout the year.
  • Enrichment Program – a supplemental program for Grades 2-8 that incorporates advanced knowledge in all subject areas.
  • Each Class is responsible for a School Mass/Prayer Service each Month.
  • Home Economics classes in 5th through 8th grade.

Facilities

  • The before care program starts at 7:15 A.M., and the After Care program ends at 6:00 P.M.
  • The school is conveniently located on West Side Avenue.
  • The Montgomery/West Side, Society Hill, #80 and the 440 buses have stops at the school.
  • Newly renovated Science Lab available to all grades.
  • The Technology Lab has state of the art Apple Computers which are updated yearly.
  • The Technology classes extends the children’s knowledge of their core subject areas.
  • Wireless high speed internet is available for all staff and student use.
  • Smart Board and Promethian Board Technology are used in both the Computer Lab and classrooms throughout the school.
  • Our Gym is one of the largest in Jersey City
  • There is also a Reflective/Mediation Classroom available to all faculty and students.

Extracurricular Activities

  • The students give of their time, treasure and talent through the following programs:
    • Adopt-A-Grandparent” program, “Hats On” for children with Cancer,”Pennies for Patients” for St. Jude’s Hospital, Operation Warm Heart”, “Breast Cancer Walk”.
  • Each class is expected on a monthly basis to bring in food donations for the parish food pantry.
  • Students are teamed up with a younger grade student and activities are done together throughout the year in “The Big Brother/Big Sister” program.
  • Tag Day monies have been raised for International/ Local Relief Efforts.
  • Many clubs/activities are available.
    • The students participate in Art, Book Worm, Dance, Rock Band, Spanish, Science, Forensic, Technology and Game Clubs.
  • There are also Patrol Guards, Choir, Alter Servers and an active Student Council.
  • The 7th Grade students are responsible for a school wide recycling program.
  • Students academically participate in the following programs:
    • St. Jude Math-a-Thon, Marist Academic Olympics Marist Math Olympics, Queen of Peace Academic Challenge Martin Luther King Oratory Contest, Forensics Competition at Hudson Catholic High School, various Spelling Bees, Poetry Contest & published Poems/ Essays and 8th Grade Law Classes in coordination with Seton Hall Law School.

Sports

  • Through the Sports’ Program students competitively participate in:
    • Spring and Fall Track
    • Girls/Boys Basketball and Girls’ Volleyball.
  • The Girls’ Volleyball and Basketball teams took 1st Place in the 2009 Catholic School League Championships.
  • There is also a Boys’ Intramural Volleyball Team.
